Jacula were a bunch of occultists from Italy who expressed their beliefs through music. The group was lead by singer/guitarist Antonio Barteccetti, violinist Fiamma Dallo Spirito, a.k.a. Doris Norton, and English born pipe organist Charles Tiring. While their 1972 followup album "Tardo Pede In Magiam Versus" is often considered their only official release, it's only because that album was made available to record dealers who would agree to carry it in Italy. Their debut was actually this one. It is a real bizzare album, (especially when you know that the keyboardist, at the time of recording was 68 years old and married to an 18 year old wasn't the typical musician among the rest of his band members). This album was released on the small Gnome label, at a run of 300, but was not sold at record dealers shops, but were distributed to friends and occultists. And if the cover looks familiar, it's because it was merely colored in and featured on the second album. The album starts off a bit like a church service with a lot of pipe organ and otherwise pretty mellow stuff. The real heavy stuff starts around 14:40.
