Sir Lord Baltimore - Kingdom Come 1970

From Wikipedia: "Sir Lord Baltimore is an American rock band formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1968 by lead vocalist/drummer John Garner, guitarist Louis Dambra, and bass player Gary Justin. Some have cited the review of their debut record Kingdom Come in Creem magazine as the first documented use of the term "Heavy Metal" to refer to a style of music." Not to shabby! It's just that too. If there's ANYTHING metal, it's this album. However, again, from Wiki: "the truth is, the same reviewer used the same term reviewing a Humble Pie record in Rolling Stone six months earlier." D'oh! Gotta say this album doesn't sound like Humble Pie. They have also been Sir Lord Baltimore III Raw. The album featured a Cristian focus and lyris. An element not found on their earlier works.
referred to the "godfathers" of stoner rock. Hmmm... I seem to recall reading a few reviews of a handful of other bands that I've profiled on this blog given the same credit. Damn! Lord Baltimore cant catch a break eh? Truth is, this record is metal as shit. Between 1968 and 1976, the band released two albums and began work on a third. In 2006, Garner and Dambra reunited as Sir Lord Baltimore and put out "III Raw."

Kleptomania - 1967-1975

Kleptomania was a total kick ass stoner rock band from Brussels, Belgium. Formed in 1967, the band was a heavy-as-hell comparison to Black Sabbath. They were known for monster live shows and became an important element of live music in Belgium of the time. The band also had a revolving door of members and really bad luck! The only album they ever recorded was in '71, but never got released due to the record company going broke. By 1979 it was unofficially bootlegged to the tune of only 500 pressed. They managed to put out 5 singles throughout their time and one under the name Lee. By 1995, there was a double C.D. released that contains the album from '71, all their singles (except the one under the moniker of Lee.) and various outtakes. You can read all about the lineup changes, as well as other off-shoot bands HERE
and there's a discography right here: Belgian Metal History

Dead End 5 - Dead Ends 1976

Formed in 1975 from Finland, female fronted Dead End 5 released two albums in 1976 and 1977, along with two singles. Their debut album "Dead Ends" included covers of Blue Oyster Cults's "Me 262", Janis Joplin's "Mercedes Benz", ZZ Top's "Francine", and "Let Me Go (Rock and Roll) by Kiss. A single released in 1977 titled "James Dean Pop" was in fact a cover of "Blitzkrieg Bop" by the Ramones. Their second opus, "Lapilyonti" featured another Ramones rendition in "Judy is a Punk" re-branded "Judy Et Jackie Punk"
They disbanded in 1977.

Shinki Chen - Shinki Chen & Friends 1971

Shinki Chen was formed in 1970 by Shinki Chen and Ikuzo Orita, the president of Polydor records, and was one of the leading figures of the Japanese psychedelic rock scene in the early 70's, seen as a Jimi Hendrix type figure in Japan at the time.
This was their first release and another followed the same year with the band under the moniker Speed, Glue, and Shinki. If you haven't heared this, you're in for a treat. This shit is BAD ASS. Most definitely one of the heaviest lost psych masterworks. Chen is one of the most renown figures in Japanese psych history.

Bunalimlar - 1969-72

Bunalum or Bunalimlar was underground hard psych from Turkey. (All the lyrics are in Turkish). Here's some info I found on the interweb. "Turkey's most notoriously dirty and psychedelic band. They were formed in 1969 with the intention of having underground music reach wider audiences. They couldn't succeed well as their approach was much wilder and more uncompromising than any o f their pees at the time. God they were crazy!  Running all nude down Istikal Street, psychedelic light shows, crazy paintings all over the stage wall, and the screaming of "LSD!!LSD!!LSD!!!" at their live shows" The band, from what I can tell, released only singles. About six of them between 1970 & 1972. and their records are of "Holy Grail'' status now.
