Thundermother - "No Red Rowan" 1971

A quite mysterious release from mostly studio musicians, of which not much history is known, "No Red Rowan", an album of heavy blues, psych, acid rock was released in 1971. Out of the U.K., the album is definitely required rarity for any fan of early 70's hard stuff.
What little history is available: The album was recorded in Wakefield, England, The album was produced by Mike Levon. It collects their contributions to "Astral Navigations" (w/Light Years Away), and "Galactyca" (W/Chris Combs & Light Years Away).
J.Smith, formerly of David John and the Mood, co-produced and sang on some of the tracks of this "ad-hoc" group of studio musicians called Thundermother in 1969. Providing half the tracks on the "Astral; Navigations" album in the course of a weekend.
"No Red Rowan" wasn't released until 1995 (CD only), and "Astral Navigations" was released in 1971, with re-issues in 1980, 1990, & 1992. "Galactyca saw it's firs release in 1990.

  2. Great posting! What I like the most is that the 70's were so rich musically speaking that I'm still finding out about bands like this one. I'm 61 now. Thanks a lot for this jewel!
